The Combat Edge Weapon I is designed to give you the fundamental concepts and basic skills, involved with a use of a edge weapon for self-defense.
The best way to defend against an edge weapon attack is first to learn how to use one. The more you know how to use a knife, the greater the chance of you successfully defending against one.
This basic training course will introduce the students how to defend against different knife attacks & learn to use a knife as a defensive tool. Knives has been used since the dawn of time for self-protection, early man realized that an edge tool is a great equalizer in self- defense situation. A knife like any other tool could be used as a utility implement & when the need arises a very effective life saving tool. It doesn’t take much strength to use, perfect for people who are not very strong physically. Whether it is a folding knife, kitchen knife or any other bladed instrument all the principles apply to whatever which one you might need to use to defend yourself.

Instructor Bio: Sonny Mayo
Sonny Mayo, Law Enforcement Close Quarter Weapons Lead Trainer & Doce Pares Instructor
Grew up in the Batangas, Philippines where the balisong knife originally came from. He started training in 1975 with Karate & the Filipino Martial Arts. In 1992 migrated & established Doce Pares NYC Training Center in Queens New York with the blessing of Grandmaster Diony Canete the founder of the Doce Pares Multi-Styles System who has been featured on the first episode of The Human Weapon on the History channel & Grandmaster Dong Cuesta, the highest ranking Doce Pares Instructor outside Cebu City, Philippines & a 5 time world champion in forms & full contact stick fighting.
Sonny Mayo a student of GM Dong Cuesta for 2 decades is a former 2 time US National full-contact stick-fighting champion & Silver medalist in the world championship in the mid-90s. In the early 2000 as a fight trainer Sonny Mayo produced national & world champion eskrima fighters up to the present.
In the last 5 years Sonny Mayo was sought by different law enforcement agency & personnel to teach close quarter combat tactics in the use of edge, impact weapons & close quarter pistol. He is also the featured lead instructor in the 2010 LAW ENFORCEMENT Expo in the Jacob Center in Manhattan, NY. To date Sonny has taught members of the US Marshal, ICE Fugitive Recovery, Police & Correction Officers from different states. He comes highly recommended & endorsed from all the LEOs he has trained through the years. He conducts LEO combat weapons training at his school once a month.
Sonny Mayo trains in the use of firearms for combat application, taught by members SWAT/ESU Police firearms instructor. He is training on to be a a certified firearms instructor.
